As an office 29+ years in the making we want to make sure our patients are well taken care of in all areas of their eye health, including routine check ups to see if IPL is the right treatment for you!
Optilight by Lumenis is the only FDA approved instrument for MGD and is the primary reason we trust this treatment for our patients. IPL (Intense Pulse Light) is a 15 minute treatment used to help the effects of dry eyes, which accounts for 86% of patients. This treatment is easy and nearly painless, leaving you with better feeling eyes even after the first session. During your hour long appointment we take our time to go over pre and post treatment care of your skin and answer any questions that you may have.
All patients interested in IPL should be aware of the following limitations before starting treatment:
- No long term sun exposure or tanning
- No makeup or lotion on your skin the day of your scheduled treatment
- Please inform us if you have any tattoos or beauty marks in the treated areas that you would like to remain on your skin. The intense exposure of light can cause changes and or removal of pigmentation of the skin.
- If you are taking any light sensitizing medications. This can affect if you are a good candidate for the treatment.
- It is recommended to have 4 treatments separated by 2 weeks between each treatment for optimal results.
After Treatment
- Immediately after treatment you will notice some slight redness on the treated areas.
- You will experience a small amount of dryness or grittiness in your eyes after the first 1-3 treatments due to the diseased oils leaving your ducts.
- Apply sunscreen everyday (40 SPF or greater) and only use gentle cleanser without harsh chemicals or alcohol since these can cause negative affects more so after treatment.
**Energy-based treatments like IPL are not suitable for everyone and can carry some risks for certain patients. This treatment is counteractive for patients with the following skin conditions in the treated area:
